In Fond Remembrance

When we look back at our days in this movement, many faces come before us. There may be some dear ones who are no longer with us today but who have played a vital role in our growth and that of the movement in various places. Let’s make some time in this Jubilee year to remember these people and offer prayers for their souls and to pray for the needs of the families they have left behind.

As the Church commemorates all the faithful departed on 2nd November (All Souls Day), let us in this year remember and pray especially for all departed Jesus Youth. 

Sunny Philip
Born: 21 February 1963
Died: 15 March 1991
Sunny was an active Jesus Youth from Changanacherry. He had served as the All Kerala Intercession Team Member, Changanacherry Zonal Youth Co-ordinator and a resource person over the years in the movement.

Mathew (Mathachan)
Born: 15 August 1956
Died: 4 December 1991
Fondly called Mathachan in JY circles, Mathew was part of the Renewal from 1977 and was one of the first line leaders of Jesus Youth since its very beginning. Playing a key role in the founding of the Christeen ministry and in the early formation programmes, Mathachan’s responsibilities included co-ordinating the first JY leaders’ formation series – ‘Know Yourself’. He was also the Core group member of the St. Teresa’s prayer group in Ernakulam.

Johny Recahard
Born: 12 October 1973
Died: 21 November 1993
The brother of Suma who works in the KYCT office, Emmaus, Johny was part of the Jesus Youth movement from 1988 onwards.

Benny Joseph
Born: 26 June 1961
Died: 17 May 1995
Hailing from Changanacherry, Benny was active in the prayer groups of the parish and in the sub zonal level. He was a Service Team Member and a Sub-zonal Service Team Member.

M R Babu
Born: 8 May 1957
Died: 14 June 1996
Hailing from Kuravinangadu, he became the Sub-zone Co-ordinator of Kuravinangadu in 1992.

Pintol Lonappan
Born: 15 February 1965
Died: 20 December 1997
Hailing from Irinjalakuda, Pintol was active in the JY Media ministry besides other areas. A photographer by profession, he always made himself and all his resources freely available for numerous JY programmes.

Sabu Suresh
Born: 29 June 1974
Died: 27 April 1998
Hailing from Kaliyar, Kodikulam, Sabu was active in Jesus Youth from 1995 onwards.

Mathew Thomas
Born: 21 June 1938
Died: 11 January 2001
Mr. Mathew, who was a very active presence in the Renewal in Mumbai, was the Animator and Elder for Jesus Youth since the start of the movement in Mumbai in 1992. A widower, he is survived by two sons.

Reena Bastian
Born: 29 Dec. 1979
Died: 11 March 2001
Returning to Kozhikode after a JY mission outreach programme at Rajapuram parish, Idukki, she was one among five vibrant Jesus Youth who met with a bus accident at Kottakal. She succumbed to the flames and died on 11 March 2001.

Shiji Thomas
Born: 12 Oct. 1981
Died: 11 March 2001
Returning to Kozhikode after a JY mission outreach programme at Rajapuram parish, Idukki, she was one among five vibrant Jesus Youth who met with a bus accident at Kottakal. She succumbed to the flames and died on 11 March 2001.

Rajani Mathew

Roy Joseph
Born: 11 Nov. 1970
Died: 11 March 2001
Returning to Kozhikode after a JY mission outreach programme at Rajapuram parish, Idukki, he was one among five vibrant Jesus Youth who met with a bus accident at Kottakal. Though Roy jumped out of the burning bus, he got back in when he realised that his friends were still inside. He managed to push one of them out of the vehicle before succumbing to the flames along with the other three. They left for their heavenly abode on 11 March 2001. Their fifth companion succumbed to burns four days later.

Bindhu Devassia
Born: 26 March 1980
Died: 15 March 2001

Her companion Roy managed to push her out of the vehicle before the other four succumbed to the flames. Bindhu too succumbed to burns on 15 March 2001.

Sanu Antony
Born: 12 May 1975
Died: 10 June 2001
Active in Jesus Youth since 1992, Sanu led an extraordinary witnessing life. He was a Service Team Member from 1995 -97 and then again from 1997-99.

Wilson Poulose
Born: 29 April 1970
Died: 14 July 2004
Wilson, a lay missionary of Santvana Community completed his earthly sojourn on 14 July 2004 after a sudden and brief illness. Wilson was the acting Jesus Youth Co-ordinator of Kothamangalam zone and a member of the Jesus Youth National Team. Before taking ill, he was co-ordinating the Jesus Youth Hindi Fulltime Volunteers’ Training. A strong intercessor and a zealous missionary, he is survived by his wife Jancy whom he married on 29 April 2004.

Siby Varghese
Born: 12 September 1979
Died: 19 November 2004
Siby or Sibichan as he was fondly called, was the Sub-zonal Co-ordinator, a campus team member and a Zonal Service Team member during the course of his involvement in the JY movement.

Suresh
Born: 31 May 1959
Died: 25 February 2005
Suresh chettan (popularly known as ' Kannur Suresh') was one of the first liners of Jesus Youth - a person who contributed to the growth of JY. He was the first Co-ordinator of the Kannur zone. Despite a number of struggles including poor health, he remained strong in his faith and was involved with youth retreats and the intercession ministry. He motivated and challenged many present JY leaders. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Binu Joseph
Born: 1 January 1975
Died: 23 April 2005
Hailing from Elanji, Pala, Binu was active in the parish ministry. He is survived by his wife Bindu.

Binoy John
Born: 28 January 1972
Died: 13 January 2007
Originally from Changanacherry, Binoy was actively involved in the campus Prayer Group and in the JY Delhi activities.

Milinda John
Died: 16 May 2007
A cheerful, caring and soft spoken person, Milinda became active in JY Hyderabad in 2005 and was a member of the Audio Visual ministry. Working as a Management Trainee with GE, she was very vibrant and willing to serve the Lord - always with a smile on her face. From a Catholic family, she is survived by her parents and a younger brother.

Paul Eric Pinheiro
Born: 10 July 1944
Died: 6 June 2007
Eric was part of the music ministry of the first Jesus Youth Conference in 1985. He was involved with the music ministry for a long time and was part of the Rexband in the initial stages. He was a retreat preacher and a minister at the Divine Retreat Centre.

Samson
Born: 20 June 1972
Died: 30 July 2007
Hailing from Bolgatty, Ernakulam, Samson was an active part of the JY movement since 1985 onwards.

Anoop Mathew
Born: 29th Aug. 1983
Died: 14th July 2008
Anoop was the Co-ordinator of the +2 ministry (now Teens ministry) for Kottayam zone and the Prayer Group Co-ordinator of K.E. College, Mannanam. He was also an active youth member of Villoonni parish and KCYM.

Varghese Chitilappilly
Born: 25 February 1956
Died: 29 August 2008
Involved with the JY since 1990, Varghesechettan (as he was popularly known in JY circles) served as the Finance Co-ordinator and greatly helped in arranging financial resources for many of our initiatives in Kerala.

Joby Illickel
Born: 16 September 1991
Died: 3 February 2009
From a family active in the Renewal in Kozhikode, Joby was a team member of the campus ministry and an active member in the Parish prayer group.

Shibu Joseph
Age : 29 years
Died: 12 May 2009
Originally from Kannur, Shibu was working in Nasik as a Senior Project Manager for a foreign firm. Shibu was an active Jesus Youth in Mumbai (served as the Service Team Member from 2003-'05) and in Kerala. He shared his time, talents, money - everything for Jesus. Shibu got married in 2005 and leaves behind his wife and two children (2 yrs old and 9 months old).

Dr. Arun Simon
Born: 22 November 1973
Died: 24 September 2009
Dr. Arun, a dentist by profession, was actively involved in the Parish and Professional ministries of Jesus Youth. He is survived by his wife - Dr. Suja and two daughters.

Chathuranga Dias
Born: 22 July 1989
Died: 15 December 2009
Chathuranga was a strong Jesus Youth from the start of the movement in Sri Lanka. He was very active in the Music Ministry as the drummer and was instrumental in forming the Audio Visual ministry. His deep and regular intercession prayer was an example to many.

Bency Sajan
Born: 8 April 1979
Died: 17 April 2010
Working as a Mathematics Teacher at St. Jude’s Higher Secondary School, Ernakulam, Bency was keenly involved in the intercession ministry and the parish prayer group activities. She was also a Catechism Teacher in the parish. She is survived by her husband - Sajan and two very young sons.

Tisha James
Born: 9 March 1986
Died: 3 May 2010
A loving and caring person, Tisha was working as a software engineer in Infosys at Trivandram. Her involvement in Jesus Youth goes back to her college days and she was the Core Team member in the College of Engineering, Adoor from 2005 to 2007. Having lost her father in 2006, Tisha who hails from Kottayam, leaves behind her mother and three sisters.

Rosily Shibu
Born: 20 Sept. 1975
Died: 22 May 2010
With a loving and open JY home in Mangalore, Rosily and her children, Godwina and Gloria, were regular members of the prayer group at the St. Alphonsa parish. Rosily was one of the senior JY leaders in the parish and was part of the core team there. Both Godwina & Gloria too were a vibrant presence in the parish. She leaves behind her husband Shibu, an active JY in Kasargod and Mangalore and presently in UAE.

Godwina Shibu

Died: 22 May 2010

Gloria Shibu

Rajesh Guntur
Born: 8 August 1981
Died: 14 June 2010
Hailing from Vijayawada, Rajesh constantly made himself available for any activity in the parish (St. Peter's Cathedral) or the diocese. Though a little physically challenged due to polio, he was immensely blessed and used his musical abilities for numerous JY programmes. Besides this, he would support silently by doing small and simple things with great love. With a Master's degree in Information Technology, he was also a certified Hardware & Network Engineer by profession. Having lost his father in 2002, Rajesh leaves behind his mother and younger brother.

David Kent
Born: 31 December 1988
Died: 21 July 2010
A first year degree student studying in Kohima, David was an active member of the Jesus Youth there. A person full of ideas to serve the Lord, he had accompanied the JY team on a visit to a prison even on the day before his death.

Robin Sebastian
Age : 31 years
Died: 27 September 2010
Robin was the Prayer group leader at St. Xavier's Church, Azhekkal, Cherthala, from the year 2000 to 2002.

Titto Kurian
Died: 1 October 2010
A Jesus Youth from Kannara parish in Thrissur, Titto met with a road accident and left for his heavenly abode on 1 October 2010. Active in the parish prayer group (Peechi: 2004 to 2007), he was also musically talented and played the Keyboard.

Let us also specially remember Fr. Sebastian Mundanchery, Fr. Augustin Thuruthimattam, Fr. Armond OFM Cap., Fr. George Thekkemuri and Lukose Mundakathil, a Jesus Youth of Edathua who played an active role in Jeevajwala.
